Sofía Daccarett Char (born April 10, 1993), known professionally as Sofía Carson (or, alternatively, Sofia Carson), is an American actress and singer. As a well-established Disney Channel actress, Sofía Carson made three guest appearances on Soy Luna, in Season 1/Episode 71, Season 1/Episode 72, and Season 3/Episode 22.
In Season 1, Carson performed her debut single "Love Is the Name." In Season 3, Carson performed "Better Together" with Descendants co-star Dove Cameron.
Carson is known for her role as Evie in the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants and its subsequent sequels. She also had a supporting role as Melanie Sanchez in Tini: The New Life of Violetta.
Life and Career[]
Carson was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to José F. Daccarett and Laura Char Carson, who both moved to Florida from Colombia.[1][2][3][4] She chose the artistic name "Carson" after her American maternal grandmother, Lauraine Carson.[5] Through her mother, Carson is related to the Char family of Colombian politicians, which is of Lebanese origin.[1][6]
She attended St. Hugh School and graduated from the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami.[3] She attended In Motion Dance Studio, where she was part of the IMPAC Youth Ensemble program, competing all over the United States.[3][7] She subsequently attended UCLA, majoring in communications with a minor in French.[7][8]
In 2012, Carson was signed with BMI as a "singer-songwriter".[9] Her acting career was launched in 2014 when she was cast as a guest star, playing Chelsea, on the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally. A few months later, Carson was cast as a recurring guest star, playing Soleil, on MTV's series Faking It. In 2014, she was cast in a starring role in the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants,[10] in which she plays Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen from Snow White.[11][12] She also contributed to the film's soundtrack.
On January 9, 2015, Carson was cast in the co-lead role in the Disney Channel Original Movie Adventures in Babysitting.[13] The following year, Carson landed the leading role in the fourth installment of the A Cinderella Story series, A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits, which was released direct-to-video.[14][15]
In March 2016, Hollywood Records and Republic Records officially announced that Caron had signed a joint worldwide record deal with both companies. Her debut single was "Love Is the Name", an interpolation of Opus' "Live Is Life," and was released on April 7 of the same year.[16] Carson released a promotional single on August 26, 2016, entitled "I'm Gonna Love You." On January 27, 2017, she released her single "Back to Beautiful" featuring Alan Walker.
Carson reprised her role as Evie in the 2017 sequel Descendants 2.[17][18] In January 2018, it was announced that Carson would be starring in the Freeform television series Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, in the role of Ava Jalali.[19][20][21] That same year, Carson had a recurring role on another of the network's shows, Famous in Love. [22] She once again reprised her role as Evie for the third installment of the Descendants franchise, which premiered on August 2, 2019.[23] In 2020, Carson portrayed the role of April in the Netflix dance film Feel the Beat.[24][25]
In August 2019, Carson was designated as the first Global Ambassador of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. Her role includes advocating, promoting, and increasing awareness of the foundation's mission and educational programs.[26][27] In January 2020, Carson was named the new global ambassador of beauty brand Revlon.[28][29]
